Trim lets you set a precise start and end point for your karaoke. Everything before the start and after the end is removed from playback and from exported files. Use it to skip long instrumental intros, cut trailing fade-outs, or create a shorter radio-style edit.

What trimming does

  • Removes audio and video before the start time
  • Removes audio and video after the end time
  • Applies automatically to all exports from that version
  • Does not affect other versions of the same project

Open the Trim panel

1

Open your project in the Studio

Navigate to online.youka.io and open the project you want to trim.
2

Open the Trim panel

In the Studio sidebar, click Trim.

Set a start time

The start time is where your karaoke begins. Everything before it is cut.
  1. Enter a time in seconds in the Start field, or drag the start marker on the timeline to the desired position.
  2. The preview timeline highlights the active region so you can see exactly what will be included.
Leave a second or two of audio before the first lyric line so the opening feels natural rather than abrupt.

Set an end time

The end time is where your karaoke stops. Everything after it is cut.
  1. Enter a time in seconds in the End field, or drag the end marker on the timeline.
  2. The Duration field updates automatically to show the length of the trimmed karaoke.

Preview your trim

The preview respects your trim points:
  • Playback starts at the start time and stops at the end time.
  • The timeline highlights the active portion in a different color.
  • Use the jump-to-start and jump-to-end controls to quickly verify your cut points.
Changes save automatically as you adjust the trim markers. There is no separate save step required.

Common use cases

If a song has an extended instrumental section before the vocals begin:
  1. Play the song and note the timecode where the first lyric appears.
  2. Set the Start time to a few seconds before that point to preserve a natural lead-in.
  3. Preview to confirm the karaoke opens cleanly.

Trim is per-version

Trim settings belong to the version you have active. This means you can maintain multiple cuts of the same project without duplicating any work.
1

Create a Full version

In the Versions panel, create a version named “Full”. Leave trim at default (no start or end cut applied).
2

Create a Short version

Create a second version named “Short”. Apply your desired start and end trim points.
3

Export each separately

Switch between versions and export each one independently. Each export uses that version’s trim settings.
Versions also inherit all other settings independently — background, text style, layout — so you can have a full-length version and a trimmed version with different visual styles if needed.

Reset trim

To restore the full song length:
  1. Set Start to 0.
  2. Set End to the full song duration.
  3. Or click the Reset button in the Trim panel to clear both values at once.

Tips

  • Always preview your trim before exporting — a few seconds of review can save you from re-exporting.
  • Avoid cutting mid-word. Use the waveform in the timeline to find natural silent gaps between phrases.
  • Keep the lyric sync in mind — if your start time skips lyrics that are already synced, those lines simply won’t play, which is fine.
  • Use the waveform to find natural break points where the audio is quiet, so cuts feel clean.
