Instead of downloading a video file and uploading it, you can paste a URL directly into Youka. The Youka Extension handles the download in the background, then processing continues just like a file upload.
Creating from a URL requires the Youka Extension to be installed and connected. The extension runs locally on your computer and bridges the browser with the download capability. See Extension overview for installation instructions.

Before you start

Make sure the Youka Extension is installed and running:
  1. Visit the extension download page and download the installer for your operating system (Windows, macOS, or Linux)
  2. Run the installer and follow the setup steps — the extension will appear in your system tray
  3. Open online.youka.io in your browser
  4. Check the top-right corner for the extension indicator — it should show Connected
If you see Not Connected, restart the extension from your system tray, then refresh the page.

Steps to create from a URL

Click Create Karaoke

Click Create Karaoke from the Youka home page.

Select the From URL tab

In the creation dialog, click the From URL tab. This tab is only active when the extension is connected.

Paste the video URL

Paste the URL of the video you want to turn into a karaoke track. The video must be publicly available — private, members-only, or age-restricted videos cannot be downloaded.

Click Download

Click Download. The Youka Extension downloads the video to your computer and extracts the audio. You’ll see a progress indicator while this completes.

Add lyrics and create

Once the download finishes, continue exactly as you would for a file upload:
  • Enter a title
  • Choose to provide lyrics or use AI transcription
  • Select the lyrics language
  • Click Create Karaoke

Supported video sources

The extension can download from most publicly accessible video URLs. Videos must be:
  • Publicly available (not private or age-restricted)
  • Accessible without logging in to the source platform
Always make sure you have the right to use the audio content you download. Youka processes the file on your behalf, but responsibility for copyright compliance rests with you.
